This group of button shaped netsuke are called ‘manju’ netsuke.

The top side of these netsuke are highly decorated.

This Ivory Manju netsuke depicts a woman playing a flute. The detail includes coloured decoration on the flute, head-dress and sleeves.

Red lacquer Manju nesuke. Generally the reverse side is quite plain on manju netsuke but this one is decorated. This netsuke has a highly patterned background.
