Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus

Mealworm beetle alongside a centimetre scaleIt is quite normal to find one or two of these in your house, especially in the spring during nice weather. They fly about and get attracted to lights. If you see one on the carpet, the chances are that it has just flown in the window.

However, if you find a number of them regularly, then they may be breeding in the house. A prime place to look is in the kitchen cupboards.

We all forget about opened packets of cereal or bags of flour, and these are ideal for mealwoms to breed in.
