Bolton acquired its cast of Tuojiangosaurus multispinus in May 2000. Two thirds of the purchase cost came from public donations. The original was found in China in 1977 at a place called Wujiaba Quarry. This is near Zigong in the Sichuan Basin.

The name means “Tuo River Lizard with many spikes”, a reference to the spikes on the tail and shoulders.

It was a plant-eater 7 metres long and weighing around three tonnes. It is a relative of the better-known Stegosaurus.
