Toys (KS1)

Your pupils will be able to participate in fun learning experiences, which will allow them to investigate the Bolton Museum’s fascinating collection of toys from the past.

Venue:

  • Bolton Museum

Note: All sessions at the Museum are free to schools within the Bolton Local Authority

Aims:

  • To provide pupils with a greater understanding of toys from the past through a range of enjoyable, exciting and inspirational activities.
  • To identify similarities and differences between old toys and new toys.

Objectives & Activities:

  • Encounter fascinating toys from the past and compare them with modern toys.
  • See how fascinating mechanical clockwork toys move.
  • Investigate materials, which traditional and modern toys are made from.
  • Explore, handle and play with a wide range of historic toys.

This interactive workshop links to the Key Stage 1 Scheme of Work for:

  • History Unit 1: How are our toys different from those in the past?
  • N.C. History programmes of study:
    • 1: Chronological understanding.
    • 2: Knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past: To identify differences between ways of life at different times.
    • 4: Historical enquiry: To find out about the past from a range of sources  including visits to museums.
