In 2004 the Museum applied for a grant from the Wolfson Foundation to acquire a brand new, purpose-built case to house Crompton’s Spinning Mule.

Earlier this year Edinburgh-based museum case manufacturers Click Netherfield were appointed to build the Mule’s new home at a cost of £21,000.

On the 1st November, it will finally be unveiled to the public.

Temporary Gallery Closures

As a result of the installation of the case the local history gallery, world bays and wildlife gallery will be closed on the following dates:

Monday 29th October to Wednesday 31st October

The History centre and Art and Egyptology galleries will be open as normal.

Over the coming months, the cases around the Mule will be re-displayed to focus on the story of cotton in Bolton.

Bolton Museum & Archive Service apologises for the temporary inconvenience that this will cause.
