Museum acquires local interest photography collection

A photographic collection has been generously given to Bolton Museum & Archive Service. They offer a fascinating glimpse of Bolton life taken at the turn of the last century.

The majority of any Museum local history collection is made up of kind donations from the public and Bolton's is no exception. A good example is this group of 186 photographs taken by Thomas Shires.

Mr Shires was Bob Shires great uncle; he and his family  have kindly passed the collection on to the Museum.

Bob Shires thinks that the photographs were probably taken between 1903 and 1905 and appear to consist of scenes captured on family days out around Bolton and also further a field.
