Welcome to the perfect venue for your forthcoming wedding…
Welcome to Smithills Hall, one of Bolton’s most historic family homes and quite simply a great place to get married.
The Hall offers a unique venue full of history and charm, its historic past providing the perfect backdrop for your ceremony and an exclusive setting for photographs both inside and out.
We have a marriage premises licence for up to 65 guests and can offer the choice of two, exquisite and fully restored rooms ready to cater to your every need.
From the oak timbered splendour of the Elizabethan ‘Great Hall’ to the more intimate Tudor ‘Withdrawing Room’ we offer complete exclusivity to your preferred space for the wedding ceremony.
You and your guests can also take full advantage of the Hall and grounds for post-wedding celebrations. From a simple drinks reception to more formal dining or large evening reception in a marquee, our team of highly skilled professionals will work with you to co-ordinate events and create the individual wedding you desire.
Facilities
The Great Hall
This impressive Medieval Hall, with oak timbers and gable ends dated to almost a thousand years of age, is quite simply stunning. The room’s original use, for dining, lends itself perfectly to wedding ceremonies. With seating for up to 65 guests the room provides a truly unique and atmospheric setting.
The Withdrawing Room
With its great bay window the Withdrawing Room reflects the optimism and expansion of the Tudor period. The room’s unique carved panels, of adults arranged as couples facing one another, is an unusual feature and provides a more intimate setting for up to 20 guests.
The Bower Room
As the private quarters of the Radclyffe family, the Bower Room and bed chamber, The Solar Room, both provide a calm and relaxing space to combat those pre-wedding nerves! The Registrar will meet both bride and groom prior to the ceremony in the Bower room to help them prepare.
The Grounds
The 2000 acres of estate comprises moorland, grassland and semi-ancient woodland. The hall’s formal gardens have now been returned to their original Victorian splendour and can be used for drinks receptions and photographs (weather permitting). For larger receptions we are able to arrange the installation of a marquee on the lower lawn in order that you and your guests can dance the night away!
