    Calling all babies and their families! Join us for Arty Babies - a fortnightly baby group at Bolton Central Library and Museum. Arty Babies brings our collections and resources to life through songs, play and sensory activities. Free entry, no need to book, just pop by.     Making Landscape 1778 to 2016 - Bolton Central Library and Museum

    The museum’s art collection is represented in a new exhibition, on the lower ground floor. Entitled Making Landscape, the exhibition features a selection from 1778 – 2016, including stunning 18th century watercolours to contemporary photographs. The museum, which is situated on the top floor of the building, is now closed to the public for the duration of the Eternal Egypt gallery project. Sat 10 December to Fri 30 June, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9am to 5pm, Wednesday 9.30am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh! Dinosaurs! poetry show - Bolton Central Library and Museum

    Join us for fun, roars and laughter as we celebrate September’s National Poetry Day! Come along and see Dommy B’s awesome Prehistoric poetry show ‘Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh! Dinosaurs!’ The show tells the story of a young troll who must defend the town from a gang of destructive, deadly dinosaurs. Dommy B is an internationally award winning performance poet and has performed on BBC’s Rhyme Rocket. He was 2017 Glastonbury Festival Poet in Residence and has toured his verse across the world from Canada to India and New Zealand. Before the show there will also be free craft activities as part of our Saturday club in the Children’s Library from 1.30pm to 3pm. Suitable for children aged 5 to 10. Free event and no need to book.

    Discover all about the extraordinary story of Mass Observation and their pioneering study of Bolton, which they called ‘Worktown’, in the late 1930s. Please note that this is a re-run of the walk around key ‘Worktown’ sites that took place in June.

    Worktown Tour - Bolton Central Library and Museum

    Discover all about the extraordinary story of Mass Observation and their pioneering study of Bolton, which they called ‘Worktown’, in the late 1930s. Beginning our walk in the Bolton History Centre you will have a chance to view Humphrey Spender’s internationally celebrated ‘Worktown’ photographs. Please note that this is a re-run of the walk around key ‘Worktown’ sites that took place in June.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh! Dinosaurs! poetry show - Bolton Central Library and Museum

    Join us for fun, roars and laughter as we celebrate September’s National Poetry Day! Come along and see Dommy B’s awesome Prehistoric poetry show ‘Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh! Dinosaurs!’ The show tells the story of a young troll who must defend the town from a gang of destructive, deadly dinosaurs. Dommy B is an internationally award winning performance poet and has performed on BBC’s Rhyme Rocket. He was 2017 Glastonbury Festival Poet in Residence and has toured his verse across the world from Canada to India and New Zealand. Before the show there will also be free craft activities as part of our Saturday club in the Children’s Library from 1.30pm to 3pm. Suitable for children aged 5 to 10. Free event and no need to book.

    Roy Lancaster will be returning to his roots to talk about his new book ‘Roy Lancaster: My life with plants’. There will also be an opportunity to buy copies of his book and get it signed. Join us for free fun garden and animal themed activities for the whole family from 11am to 3pm.
